I need to clarify the nature of this photo.
This is not actually something I took, it is, in fact, a photograph that was given to me by a street photographer named Ed who approached me on the street in London. I do not own the negative, I just own this fantastic photo that carries the kind message Ed inscribed to me on its back which says “To Claire, with love. -Ed.”
This is forever a treasured momento for me because Ed, an Eastern European photographer who appeared to be in his late Seventies just approached me on the street and just showered me with the most fantastic compliments I have ever received. He told me I would be a “muse” for him and that I was the most striking girl he had seen in years in London. Being from America and having found myself in a city I had always fantasized about, I was, to say the least, floored by his kindness and the fact that this event just happend to me in a foreign city that was in some ways intimidating and new. I was almost moved to tears when he took out this photo from his slingback bag and started to write me a message on the back of it (i’ll scan it soon).
In short, I offer this photo as inspiration to the masses on the internet because Ed’s work, from what I saw on his camera, was charming and fully celebrating life in its nature. Take this, and remember that life is quirky and beautiful when you look at it. Take that with you wherever you’re taken.

The story adds so much value to an already gorgeous photograph.

The outrage is tiresome and deeply hypocritical, in all the tiresome ways you’ve been tired out by before. M.I.A. was illustrating her line, acting out the attitude of the words: performing. Fine, it may not be legal to flip the bird on television, but that’s simply a remnant of the fifties we haven’t shaken. Unless somebody was handing out Xanax with the foam fingers, Lucas Oil Stadium was ringing with the music of profanities last night. More to the point, television viewers were submitted to ad after ad that likened women—negatively—to sofas, cars, and candy. Mr. Winter didn’t have anything to say about that, so I’d like to raise both of my middle fingers to him and anyone who thinks profanity is somehow more harmful to our children than images of violence and misogyny. (My two sons, fourteen and eleven, thought the Fiat ad was corny, so I guess they will be safe without Mr. Winter’s intervention.) I say we get out of The Pretending To Be Moral game altogether and use the Internet for important things like posting pictures of cats looking at croissants and PDFs of sensitive government documents.

I know racism is bad and it’s caused a lot of people a lot of harm and stuff, but sometimes I just think it’s funny. It’s just a super insane and ridiculous belief system that makes Scientology seem normal. Like, how dumb can you be?

This is really really cool and I really really hope that all of it was real. Also the subtitle-styled titles at the beginning are a nice touch.

Smart comedy” doesn’t mean that it will make you smarter, but rather that it actually took some intelligence to create. What makes the NBC comedy so great is that week after week it features lines, jokes and situations that not only make the audience howl with laughter, but make your jaw drop in awe at the creativity and wit of the writers (not to mention every episode is densely layered, which makes each one infinitely rewatchable). The only explanation for the lack of viewership is that people aren’t watching television to be entertained anymore; they’re simply watching it as a diversion.
